The members of this committee alert the congregation to social issues and encourage ACTION.
We are busy! Nearly every month of the year, we are doing something to help out with various projects in our wider community:
- Deliver Meals on Wheels in Mount Vernon through Southeast Linn Community Center (SELCC) two times per year (April and October).
- Donate backpacks and school supplies for Lisbon and Mt. Vernon elementary students through SELCC during the summer.
- On every third Sunday of the month, our church collects a “Noisy Offering” — a joyful collection of loose change — to support vital outreach programs. These offerings benefit the Southeast Linn Community Center, the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Program, and other causes that align with our church’s social concerns.
- We offer support to individuals and families in our community year-round by helping them access essential items and connecting them with helpful resources. Whether it’s providing basic necessities or referrals to local programs, we are committed to walking alongside our neighbors in times of need. We do this to the best of our ability, drawing on the unique gifts and compassion of each church member to serve others with love and dignity.
- During the summer of 2025, our church was grateful to participate in the Summer Meal Program by not only serving free lunches but also providing a welcoming space every Friday for the community to gather. This effort helped ensure that children and families had access to nutritious meals in a safe, supportive environment. Our involvement reflects our ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting the well-being of our neighbors.
- As a church, we strive to stay aware of what is happening in our world — both the challenges and the opportunities to respond with care. We seek to understand the needs of others, near and far, and to discern how we can offer meaningful support. Whether through prayer, giving, advocacy, or action, we aim to be a compassionate presence in a hurting world. Our faith calls us to not only see, but to respond with love and hope.
