The members of this committee alert the congregation to social issues and encourage ACTION.

We are busy! Members deliver Meals on Wheels in May and October. We feed the homeless in Cedar Rapids the first Sunday of March, July, and November. In August we provide backpacks for Lisbon and Mt. Vernon elementary students. In October we help coordinate the CROP walk. At Christmas we adopt 2 large families and give gifts of clothing and food and also adopt a person living with AIDS.

We encourage extra giving to mission through Blue Envelopes that are available in the pews. Last year we gave to Camp Wyoming, Doctors Without Borders, SE Linn Community Center, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (in Darfur inSudan, Pakistan Earthquake, and Lebanon Refugees), Katrina Family rent, Paso de Fe (Border Mission where our Sr. High Youth group worked), Minefield clearing, Waypoint Women’s and Children’s shelters, Nurses Fund at Mt. Vernon and Lisbon school districts, Hometown Care Energy Fund, Aging Services, UNICEF, CROP, and Homeless Vets.

We support four General Assembly Offerings. These offerings include contributions to Self Development of People, Retired Pastors’ Funds, Ethnic Colleges, Hurricane and Earthquake Relief, Katrina Aid, Medical Aid to victims of disaster, Inner City Youth, and Youth in Need in developing countries.

In addition, a percentage of pledges to our building fund will be divided between Camp Wyoming, the Heifer Project, and Pasos de Fe.
